Renaming the administrator directory is the most basic of basic security principles for MyBB. It's actually a recommended step by almost everybody and doing it is very simple. The first task is to open the file ./inc/config.php (where ./ is the root of your MyBB installation). Within this file, find the following block and change it to whatever you want the admin directory to be called:

Code:
/**
* Admin CP directory
*  For security reasons, it is recommended you
*  rename your Admin CP directory. You then need
*  to adjust the value below to point to the
*  new directory.
*/

$config['admin_dir'] = 'admin';

So, if I wanted my adminstrator directory to be titled "mybbsecurity", I'd change the above block to look like the following:

Code:
/**
* Admin CP directory
*  For security reasons, it is recommended you
*  rename your Admin CP directory. You then need
*  to adjust the value below to point to the
*  new directory.
*/

$config['admin_dir'] = 'mybbsecurity';

Now that you've done this, save the file and upload it back to your web host. The next step is to simply rename the ./admin directory to whatever you specified in the above step. This can be done via your FTP client (eg: FileZilla) or via cPanel's File manager (if you have cPanel bundled with your hosting).
